Cohen entered the plea in a surprise, 30-minute federal court appearance in New York City on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to making false statements to the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2017 about a plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. Thursday marked the first time Mueller's team charged Cohen as part of its investigation into Russian meddling and potential collusion with Trump campaign associates during the 2016 presidential election. However, Gregg Jarrett, FOX News' legal analyst, says the plea deal only helps Cohen's case for leniency when he is sentenced and does not prove wrongdoing on the part of President Trump.  In an op-ed on Foxnews.com, Jarrett writes, " Insofar as proving some amorphous crime of Trump-Russian 'collusion' to win the 2016 presidential election, Mueller is getting something about as valuable as a crumpled dollar..." Border Patrol agents attempted to conduct an enforcement stop around 4:25 p.m. in eastern San Diego County. The driver reportedly failed to yield to the Border Patrol's marked vehicle and fled, the statement read. In addition, Mexican officials are raising growing concerns about the potential health risks among the migrant caravans. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's hardball tactics with investigation targets, Trump supporters and witnesses are fueling concerns about his probe at a critical time, some critics say. Meanwhile, conservative author Jerome Corsi has instructed his lawyers to file a complaint against 'Mueller's special counsel' and the Justice Department Adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels says her attorney, Michael Avenatti, filed a defamation suit against President Trump without her permission Former CBS head Les Moonves, who stepped down in September amid sexual misconduct allegations, faces new accusations in a report filed late Wednesday night First lady Melania Trump fires back at critics of her White House Christmas decorations THE LEAD STORY - DOJ SENDING REINFORCEMENTS TO THE BORDER: The Department of Justice is dispatching more assets to the southern border, responding to a call for help from Homeland Security ... Senior DOJ officials told FOX News that headquarters is sending 33 DEA agents and 10 U.S. Marshals Service personnel to the Southern California border region, where migrant caravan members clashed with border agents over the weekend after rushing a U.S. port of entry. The Trump administration has referred to the situation on the southern border as a "crisis," and in recent weeks set in motion a massive movement of personnel and equipment to areas traditionally susceptible to illegal border crossings. National Guard troops have been providing support at the border for months, and thousands of active-duty military troops were dispatched in the last few weeks. In addition, there are health concerns about the migrant caravan members. According to Tijuana's Health Department, officials have treated 2,267 migrants for health-related issues. More than 60 percent are suffering from respiratory infections. So far, authorities say, among the migrants, there have been the following: Three confirmed cases tuberculosis; four confirmed cases of HIV-AIDS; 101 cases of lice; four cases of chicken pox. Just this week, conservative author Jerome Corsi balked at a plea deal after complaining the Mueller team wanted him to admit to lying (which he claims he didn't do) only after he "couldn't give them what they wanted." He tweeted Wednesday he now plans to pursue a complaint against Mueller's team. Further, Mueller's team has accused ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort of violating his plea deal by lying to investigators, amid reports his cooperation agreement was not panning out how prosecutors had hoped. More information also has come to light about the nature of those Mueller-Manafort interactions, as it emerged Manafort's legal team has been briefing Trump's team about their discussions. In a statement to The Daily Beast, Daniels said that "Avenatti has been a great advocate in many ways." However, she added, "In other ways Michael has not treated me with the respect and deference an attorney should show to a client." Avenatti responded with a statement obtained by FOX News: " I am and have always been Stormy's biggest champion.  I have personally sacrificed an enormous amount of money, time and energy toward assisting her because I believe in her. I have always been an open book with Stormy as to all aspects of her cases and she knows that. The alleged encounter between Moonves and actress Bobbie Phillips took place in March 1995 after her talent manager, Marv Dauer, set up a meeting, according to the New York Times. The actress went to the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank, California for her sit down with Moonves, who reportedly said he'd "set" her "up with John Levey," the casting director for the television show, "E.R." At the time of the meeting, Moonves was the president of Warner Bros. Television. He reportedly left a message for Levey before directing Phillips to an easel that outlined various projects going on at the company. Cindy Hyde-Smith handily beat back an insurgent challenge by Democrat Mike Espy in Mississippi's special election runoff Tuesday to become the first woman ever elected to Congress from the state ... With 95 percent of precincts reporting, Hyde-Smith had 446,927 votes to Espy's 374,880 -- a commanding margin of 54.4 percent to 45.6 percent, according to state election officials. The race marked the final midterm contest of 2018. With Hyde-Smith's victory, Republicans expanded their incoming Senate majority to 53 seats. Hyde-Smith's win gives Republicans more leeway to ensure the confirmation of President Trump's federal judicial and cabinet nominees that require Senate approval, and strengthens the party's chances of holding the majority in 2020. The closures of five GM facilities in Ohio, Michigan and Maryland – and in Ontario, Canada -- could affect up to 14,000 employees. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy Russia Special Counsel Robert Mueller has accused former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort of violating his plea agreement by repeatedly lying to federal investigators. Manafort insists he's been truthful, but could face more criminal charges and a longer prison sentence Trump, in an interview days before the G20 Summit, said he expects to move forward on raising the tariff levels on $200 billion in Chinese goods NASA spacecraft InSight Lander successfully landed on Mars on Monday and already has sent its first picture back to Earth  FOX Nation, FOX News' new subscription-based streaming service, launches today. THE LEAD STORY - GRABBERS, CHILDREN AND HUMAN SHIELDS AT THE BORDER: At a Monday night roundtable in Mississippi on his bipartisan criminal justice reform effort, President Trump charged that some migrants he identified as "grabbers" who rushed the San Ysidro, Calif., point of entry on Sunday essentially used children as human shields at the border ... The president turned to the widely circulated images from Sunday's clashes, which showed some migrants running away with children as tear gas canisters landed nearby. Videos and images from the port of entry also showed migrants throwing what appeared to be rocks over the fence and attempting to breach the wall." In some cases, you know, they're not the parents," Trump said. "These are people, they call 'em 'grabbers' -- they grab the child, because they think they're gonna have a certain status by having a child. You know, you have certain advantages and things with our crazy laws that frankly Congress should be changing. You know, if you change the laws, you wouldn't have this problem." In a statement late Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen backed up Trump's comments, adding that recent caravans were larger and more organized than previous ones. Cindy Hyde-Smith appeared poised for an easy runoff against her Democratic challenger after the first round of voting in Mississippi's special election earlier this month. But after a series of high-profile controversies, Hyde-Smith – who was appointed in March to fill the Senate seat vacated by Thad Cochran – is locked in a contentious fight with Democrat Mike Espy in what has become the most competitive Senate race the state has seen in decades ... The incumbent remains the favorite in this deep-red state that President Trump, who stumped for Hyde-Smith in back-to-back rallies Monday evening, won by 18 points in 2016. With the runoff set for Tuesday, most analysts and political operatives on both sides of the aisle are predicting that Hyde-Smith will squeak out a win. Still, the controversies made the race more competitive than Republicans would have liked. Hyde-Smith has had to defend herself against several stumbles: A photograph of her wearing a replica Confederate soldier's hat, as well as a video of her praising a supporter by saying she would sit on the front row of a public hanging with him. Manafort, 69, was convicted on multiple counts of financial fraud over the summer in connection to work he completed in Ukraine as a political consultant. Approaching a separate trial on similar charges in September he entered into an arrangement with the government in which he was expected to answer questions on a wide variety of matters. Manafort remains jailed and is expected to face at least 10 years in prison. CHINA: Four days before a summit with China's leader, President Trump said he expects to move ahead with boosting tariff levels on $200 billion of Chinese goods to 25 percent, calling it "highly unlikely" that he would accept Beijing's request to hold off on the increase ... In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Trump said that if negotiations don't work out, he would also put tariffs on the rest of Chinese imports that are currently not subject to duties. "If we don't make a deal, then I'm going to put the $267 billion additional on," at a tariff rate of either 10 percent or 25 percent, Mr. Trump said. - Reported by Bob Davis, the Wall Street Journal INSIGHT ON MARS: NASA announced that its Mars InSight lander landed successfully on the surface of the Red Planet, ending a journey that lasted six months and more than 300 million miles. And the spacecraft wasted no time in getting the first picture back to Earth ... "My first picture on #Mars! My lens cover isn't off yet, but I just had to show you a first look at my new home," NASA tweeted, showing off the first image. The InSight lander entered Mars' atmosphere just shortly after 2:40 p.m. ET on Monday and touched the surface at approximately 2:54 p.m. ET. The last part of the journey was the most harrowing, with NASA calling it "seven minutes of terror" due to the agency's inability to control the landing of the spacecraft, which cost $828 million.
