Click here.   Developing now, Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 TRUMP STANDS FIRM ON WALL, SLAMS 'RIGID' PELOSI: In a wide-ranging interview before the Super Bowl and ahead of Tuesday's State of the Union address, President Trump vowed to win the partisan battle over his long-promised border wall and said Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is "very bad for our country" and "doesn't mind human trafficking" at the border ... "I think that she was very rigid -- which I would expect -- but I think she is very bad for our country," Trump said. "She knows that you need a barrier. She knows that we need border security. She wanted to win a political point." With the official White House theme for speech being "Choosing Greatness," the president is expected to strike a more conciliatory tone and emphasize unity in his State of the Union address. But he is clearly not backing down from his demand for funding for a border wall. The government is currently funded through Feb. 15 but could be shut down again if a bipartisan group of lawmakers doesn't reach an agreement over a budget, with the border wall a clear sticking point. Both Democrats and Republicans - Trump and Pelosi - remain far apart on that issue. President Trump has repeatedly suggested he will call a national emergency if Congress does not provide funding for a wall. Ralph Northam reportedly met with top aides Sunday night amid a growing chorus of Democrats calling on him to resign amid the uproar over his alleged appearance in a medical yearbook photo showing one man dressed in blackface and another in a KKK robe ... The Democratic governor so far has refused to resign. He initially apologized but then denied being in the actual photo. Still, Democrats are concerned the controversy surrounding Northam could provide a distraction as they prepare for the 2020 presidential election and are skeptical that he can continue to effectively lead. DELIBERATIONS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN 'EL CHAPO' TRIAL: Jurors in the drug trafficking trial of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman are expected to begin deliberations Monday in a three-month trial that has seen many twists and turns ... Prosecutors say that as head of the Sinaloa cartel, Guzman oversaw a drug-smuggling empire that flooded the U.S. market with at least 200 tons (181 metric tons) of cocaine and made $14 billion off of it. "I've actually always gotten along with her, but now I don't think I will anymore," Trump told the Times. "I think she's doing a tremendous disservice to the country. If she doesn't approve the wall, the rest of it's just a waste of money and time and energy because it's desperately needed." The president indicated he is still mulling bucking congressional approval and declaring a national emergency to get a border wall built. "I'll continue to build the wall and we'll get the wall finished," he told the Times. "Now whether or not I declare a national emergency — that you'll see." Trump also addressed the 2020 presidential election, dismissing rumors that he would not seeking re-election, saying "I love this job" and insisting he has tremendous support in the Republican Party. He also suggested that Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., is the Democratic frontrunner to challenge him in 2020, lamented how Democrats have shifted radically left and took on the latest developments in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation and the arrest of longtime adviser Roger Stone. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., called for eliminating private health insurance to implement "Medicare for All," there has been pushback by some moderate Democrats, including a Washington Post columnist who cautioned the party against embracing such a platform ... Megan McArdle argues that Democrats could hand President Trump a second term if they embrace and campaign on "Medicare for All." "There's a certain freedom in having Trump as an opponent — he's so loathed in many quarters of the electorate that you can propose almost anything and still be pretty certain of those votes. And yet, not entirely certain," McArdle wrote. Then she defended fellow freshman Democratic lawmakers who have been accused of anti-Semitism and called them "thoughtful colleagues." In the latest controversy involving Omar, the freshman lawmaker raised ire when she agreed with a liberal activist who wrote online that current-day Israel is much like the U.S. South was during segregation. "Israel is like the south before 1963: millions of people under Israeli control are denied the right to vote, speak freely or assemble because of their ethnicity. It's a democracy for Jews only. That's not a real democracy," activist Max Berger tweeted. Omar endorsed the tweet, sharing his anti-Israel rhetoric to her more than 471,000 followers. 'GET THE HELL OUT OF OFFICE':  In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., said Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam should resign if he doesn't back down from his comments on a controversial late-term abortion bill, saying the governor effectively endorsed "infanticide" ... Sasse, pro-life Republican, said Northam's comments were "morally repugnant" and argued the Democratic governor should "get the hell out of office" if he doesn't support protecting the life of a child who survived an abortion. "The comments the governor of Virginia made were about fourth-term abortions," Sasse said on Fox News' "The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino." "That's not abortion, that's infanticide." Ralph Northam is pushing back against Republican accusations that he supports infanticide following backlash over his comments on a controversial new state abortion bill ... "Republicans in Virginia and across the country are trying to play politics with women's health, and that is exactly why these decisions belong between a woman and her physician -- not legislators, most of whom are men," Northam spokeswoman Ofirah Yheskel said in a statement. Northam appeared on a Washington radio station to discuss the Repeal Act, which seeks to repeal restrictions on third-trimester abortions. Virginia Democratic Del. Kathy Tran, one of the sponsors, sparked outrage from conservatives when she confirmed at a hearing that a woman about to give birth could still request an abortion under the new bill. When asked about Tran's comments, Northam, a former pediatric neurologist, said that third-trimester abortions are done in extreme cases where a fetus may be severely deformed or "not viable' with the consent of the mother and often multiple physicians. "So in this particular example if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen," he said. "The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother." The intent of Northam's comments was not clear. But some conservative commentators and lawmakers believed he was discussing the possibility of letting a newborn die and was possibly endorsing "infanticide." The proposed legislation in Virginia follows New York passing a bill last week loosening restrictions on abortion. New Mexico, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington state also have passed new laws expanding abortion access or moved to strip old laws from the books that limit abortions. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has called on the director of national intelligence and the FBI chief to intervene and tutor the president ...  Schumer, D-N.Y., called on Dan Coats, director of national intelligence, to stage an intervention with Trump after the president took the unusual move Wednesday of criticizing Coats, CIA Director Gina Haspel and FBI Director Christopher Wray after their Tuesday appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee. "President Trump's criticism of the testimony you and other intelligence leaders provided to Congress yesterday was extraordinarily inappropriate," Schumer wrote to Coats, adding later that "I believe it is incumbent on you, Director Wray and Director Haspel ... to impress upon him how critically important it is for him to join you and the leadership of our Intelligence Community in speaking with a unified and accurate voice about national security threats." Howard Kurtz: Trump at war with his own intel chiefs BIPARTISAN COMMITTEE REMAINS DIVIDED OVER THE WALL: A bipartisan committee of House and Senate lawmakers met for the first time Wednesday, aiming to work out a deal on border security and avoid another government shutdown in a few weeks. But it was clear that Democrats and Republicans remain very divided over President Trump's long-promised border wall ... Both sides expressed optimism they could reach a deal that would stop the government from shutting down again Feb. 15. However, Democrats dismissed President Trump's call for a physical border wall and argued that smart border security technology would be more effective and cost-efficient. Republicans argued that a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border is needed in some places and that smart technology alone does not stop anyone from crossing into the U.S. illegally. Campus police found Gerald Belz, 18, was found behind an academic building on the Iowa City campus just before 3 a.m., KCRG-TV reported. Police haven't released a cause of death, but believe the frigid temperatures played a role, FOX28 Cedar Rapids reported. Meanwhile, an 82-year-old Illinois man was found dead outside several hours after he fell trying to get into his home, the Peoria Journal Star reported. His cause of death was recorded as related to cold exposure. In Indiana, a 22-year-old police officer and his wife were killed in a crash on an icy road, South Bend station WBND-TV reported. Ligonier police Officer Ethan Kiser's SUV spun into the path of another SUV, killing the couple and the driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old Shawna Kiser, officials told the station. Other deaths included a man struck and killed by a snow plow in the Chicago area and a Milwaukee man found frozen to death in a garage. ATTACK ON 'EMPIRE' ACTOR PROBED: Chicago police released photos of "people of interest" Wednesday night in connection with the attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett ... Smollett, 36, told investigators he was brutally attacked early Tuesday by two unknown men who yelled out "racial and homophobic slurs." Police said earlier Wednesday that they reviewed hundreds of hours of footage from downtown surveillance cameras, but had yet to find footage of the attack. But hours later the Chicago P.D.'s chief communications officer, Anthony Guglielmi, released on Twitter two photos of those possibly connected to the beating. The photos appear to show two people, dressed in dark clothing, walking along a sidewalk next to a building. Developing now, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 DISSENSION AMONG DEMS? - Despite criticism by some Democrats of the "Medicare for all" plan embraced by 2020 presidential hopeful Sen. Kamala Harris, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez insists his party is united ... In an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier on "Special Report," Perez said there is "no philosophical debate" among Democrats that universal health care is necessary. However, he conceded there is no consensus on how to achieve that goal. "The Democratic primary will have a debate about how do we get from 90 percent coverage to 100 percent coverage," Perez said. "There are some who advocate for 'Medicare for All,' there are some who will advocate for a market-based approach." Perez's comments came one day after Sen. Harris, D-Calif., turned heads at a town hall event by embracing a "Medicare for All" plan that would eliminate not only the private health insurance industry, but also hospital waiting times. While freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., threw her support behind Harris' plan, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, a lifelong Democrat who is seriously considering running a run for president as an independent, called the proposal unrealistic and un-American. Some critics have warned that the emergence of Harris and Ocasio-Cortez shows that Democrats are shifting too far left and risk alienating moderates and independent voters. Many normal activities shut down and residents huddled inside as the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast plunging temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday from one of the coldest air masses in years. The bitter cold is the result of a split in the polar vortex that allowed temperatures to plunge much further south than normal. The U.S. Postal Service said it would suspend mail delivery on Wednesday in parts or all of several Midwest states including North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. The governors of Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan all declared emergencies as the cold settled in. The NWS's forecast for Wednesday night called for temperatures in Chicago as low as minus 28, with wind chills to minus 50. The agency took to social media to stress how imperative it was to heed cold weather safety. Tulsi Gabbard's 2020 presidential campaign is already in trouble, just days after the Hawaii Democrat formally announced her White House bid, according to a report ...  The congresswoman's campaign manager, Rania Batrice, and consulting firm, Revolution Messaging, are set to depart, Politico reported Tuesday. Gabbard will rely on her sister to fill the void, the report said. "Rania Batrice is a longtime adviser and friend and remains so," Erika Tsuji, a campaign spokeswoman, told the news outlet. Tsuji said Revolution Messaging was hired only for the launch portion of the campaign. In addition to losing Batrice, Gabbard is also under fire for a public feud with U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii. She will also have to defend her House seat against state Sen. Kai Kahele, a Democrat, who recently announced his candidacy.
